Lightspeed Champion

Devonté Hynes

Life Is Sweet! Nice to Meet You, the second Lightspeed Champion long player, is an unassumingly epic collection of 12 pop songs, two instrumental intermissions, and one piano étude. Lightspeed’s early leaning towards American country dressings is traded here for a palette that draws on classical music and even musical theatre. Producer and mixer Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley) assembles the eclectic grab-bag of influences: joltingly ‘70s guitar and synth sounds, classical piano and Greek choruses shouting reprisals.

All songs written and arranged by Devonté Hynes.

when i first saw lightspeed champion live at casa da música (20th may 2008), it was such a warming surprise, since i got the ticket by chance. i have been following your work closely since then (actually, lighstpeed became like a t-shirt i wear every day). and obviously this album didn't let me down. so much magic in it!
i wish to see you in portugal again :)

it just sounds so great... very imaginative and at the same time everyone could listen to it, not like some "clever" records you need a training to listen to... to me, the definition of a great pop record. And I was surprised to receive the deluxe edition as amazon didn't mention it was a 2-cd thing when I ordered..
My favorite tracks are "Dead Head Blues" and "The Big Guns of Highsmith" (I love that weird choruses)
"Falling off the lavender bridge" was my best album of the year, maybe that sophomore effort will follow its tracks ! congrats man !
cheers from France

The albums awesome, well worth the wait!

I've been listening to the iTunes 08 set all week in anticipation. When are you likely to pop back over to tour the UK? You know you want to!

SO sad to hear you cancelled your show in Brussels! Will you be rescheduling? If not there, then anywhere else in Europe? Tix to the US are a bit expensive at the moment but my friends and I would travel anywhere in Europe :)

Dev's Movie Blog

One night, my room mate mentioned how it'd be pretty funny for someone to watch all the movies listed at the bottom of IMDB. I've started to, and it's not funny.
